Chindex CEO Roberta Lipson Receives American Chamber of Commerce in China’s Inaugural China Pioneer Award

Chindex and United Family Healthcare Founder Recognized for Her Outstanding Contributions to the Development of American Business in China

Beijing, China – November 14, 2014 – Roberta Lipson, founder and CEO of Chindex International, Inc. (“Chindex”), an American healthcare company providing services in China through the United Family Healthcare (“UFH”) network of private hospitals and affiliated clinics, received the very first American Chamber of Commerce in China (“AmCham”) China Pioneer Award at a grand ceremony hosted by AmCham in Beijing. Ms. Lipson was unanimously chosen by the AmCham Board to be the inaugural recipient of the yearly award in recognition of her trailblazing service to the Sino-American relationship since her arrival in 1979, first paving the way for international business travelers to China by providing world-class healthcare facilities. United Family Healthcare has since grown into a multi-city healthcare system. UFH continues to innovate and practice models of care which not only serve millions of customers in China and Mongolia, but that also positively impact the direction of healthcare reform. The award was presented during the AmCham China Annual General Meeting and Correspondents’ Dinner, which was attended by over 200 American and Chinese business professionals and headlined by renowned comedian Joe Wang, who previously hosted the Radio and Television Correspondents’ Association Dinner in Washington, DC.

In presenting the award, Desmond Soh, AmCham Committee Chair and Oshkosh Corporation Asia Pacific President said, “Mrs. Lipson’s early achievements in China blazed a trail for the thousands of executives who followed her. Mrs. Lipson is a true pioneer and her many accomplishments are commended by the American business community.”

During her acceptance speech, Roberta Lipson said, “I am so grateful for this honor and to be regarded as a pioneer by my peers in the ever-growing US-China business community. It has been my honor to lead the way in China’s private healthcare sector. I am often asked if there are still opportunities today to be a pioneer in China, and my answer is a resounding yes.”

Lipson was further praised at the event by Scott Kronick, President & CEO of Ogilvy PR, Asia Pacific, as well as William Zarit, former US Commercial Service Regional Director and Minister for Commercial Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. In her concluding remarks, Lipson promised to continue to be a pioneer and a leader in healthcare in China, calling on everyone in the business community to foster the US-China business relationship.
